Ximena Castillo

Мексика

Ximena holds a medical degree from Universidad Veracruzana, a MSc (Neurobiology) from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and a PhD. in Neuroscience from the Université de Lausanne where her thesis topic was related to neurometabolism during cerebral ischemia.

Since 2015 she has worked as a postdoctoral research scientist at the University of Pittsburgh, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and the University of Puerto Rico. In 2020 she joined Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in a tenure track position with the main focus of her research being the understanding of the molecular mechanisms triggered by cerebral ischemia, especially in the glial scar left after an ischemic episode.

She has collaborated with multinational teams to tackle different research questions, publishing seven original papers and one review in peer review journals. She is a frequent reviewer for three different journals related to stroke.

In late 2022, she joined Boehringer Ingelheim as a Medical Scientific Liaison and in 2024 decided to join the Angels Initiative as a consultant because stroke has always been of great interest to her. By creating collaborative networks between health centers, both public and private, as well as prehospital organizations, she is convinced stroke treatment can be delivered on time to minimize further disability.
